It’s been literally years in the making, but the time we have been dreaming about finally draws near! We’re leaving our jobs next month and will begin traveling full time after Christmas! We have been planning the trip more or less since we got married 3.5 years ago, and in earnest the past year or so. The whole planning phase has been many things – exciting and fun and challenging and overwhelming. We’ve read countless (more…)
We booked a four day weekend in/out of Philadelphia since it’s an easy direct flight on the east coast tourist trail, we’ve been wanting to visit for awhile, and because we were able to time it to coincide with the Firefly music festival held at Dover downs in Dover, DE (approximately 1.5 hr from Philly). Our plan was fly in and out of PHL airport and rent a car. We would stay in between the two destinations, (more…)
More than 90 days have passed since my last credit card application in late February, and I was anxious to do my next one! Initially, I thought that I had reached the bottom of the barrel to some extent on cards that I haven’t already applied for at least once, but I was able to find enough new cards to keep going. I picked each card with a reasonably specific redemption purpose in mind, as (more…)
Last weekend we took a quick three day trip to The Big Easy. The original plan was a couple days at the annual Jazz Festival (which has a number of classic rock and chart topping headliners as well). Turns out 1) that most of the bands we most wanted to see were the second weekend and 2) there were forecasted thunderstorms every evening of our visit, which would prove to turn the festival grounds into (more…)
During the middle of our Puerto Rico trip (the rest of which is in the blog post here), we hopped a cheap ferry for $2/each out to the small island of Vieques for 4 very restful nights. The island is really small – about 21 miles by 4 miles – and has a laid-back Caribbean vibe and some of the most stunning beaches we have seen in all our travels. We stayed in an apartment (more…)
Three wonderful years of marriage have come and gone for us! We feel so thankful to be able to share our lives with each and to travel and see all of God’s great creation! To celebrate 3 years, we hopped onto one of the recently opened Southwest flights to San Juan that the company acquired during the AirTran merger. It’s hard to leave Nashville this time of year since mid-April is usually the peak of (more…)
Our home city of Nashville is white-hot at the moment, and has recently been topping the charts of best cities to live, visit, move to, etc in the nation. While all that is great (and certainly helps our property value), it has honestly started to become a little too touristy and crowded in places. Therefore, I put together this carefully crafted list of our local favorites where you won’t end up in long lines, have (more…)
Elisa and I just had a successful credit card app-o-rama! If you’re not familiar with the term – it’s when you signup for multiple credit cards on the same day in order to avoid application denials due to multiple credit inquiries and to keep a consistent pattern to periodic signups. We both signed up, and were approved, for the British Airways card issued by Chase as well as the Club Carlson card issued by US Bank. (more…)
We were fortunate enough to first Florida twice this winter, and it was a welcome change in climate from the cold and sometimes grey skies of middle TN. Even better, we have Nicole and Jose to hangout and stay with whenever we visit! What’s great too is that there are direct flights on SW from Nashville, so we got roundtrip direct flights for roughly 18k and 23k, saving us $600 and $750, respectively! Cindy, Terry (more…)
I heard something the other day that took my mind out of its normal day-to-day stupor of routine and set it humming with ideas. What I had read was originally posted on the website of National Geographic, and is written by Robert Reid. Reid spoke with David Eagleman, a neuroscientist and bestselling author who has done research into the science of perception. Eagleman’s research suggests that perception of time passing slows down when someone is experiencing new things. Novel activities take your (more…)
